Great British Bake Off fans feeling flat as the last series on BBC comes to an end can look forward to West Berkshire Mencap’s very own baking competition.

The charity is inviting people to bake a cake to be judged at the St Nicolas coffee morning from 10am to 12pm on Thursday, 3rd November.

The competition is free to enter, and bakers can make the cake of their choice which will be graded according to taste and presentation. It will then be sold in aid of the charity.

Entries must be submitted to the Enborne Gate office before 5pm on 2nd November and the winner will be presented with a bottle of bubbly at the coffee morning.

The coffee morning will offer Newbury shoppers a cake stall and a bottle tombola.

Leila Ferguson, Chief Executive of West Berkshire Mencap, said: “We held a smaller version of the baking competition amongst staff and volunteers last year and were astounded at the level of competitiveness and competence.  We’re now opening up the competition to all supporters and can’t wait to see what people deliver. Don’t forget though that it will raise much-needed funds to support people with a learning disability and their families and carers.

“We will also be launching a regular coffee morning at our Enborne Gate office so please watch this space for more details.”
